Permeability of concrete is of particular significance in structures which are intended to retain water or which cone into contact with water. Apart from functional considerations, permeability is intimately related to durability of concrete. Resistance to progressive deterioration under exposure to severe climate and leaching due to prolonged seepage of water containing corrosives or minerals in solution is completely dependent on durability. The determination of permeability characteristics of concrete therefore assumes considerable importance.
